An award winner at Cannes in 1989, where it opened the Directors' Fortnight, and co-produced by Swiss filmmaker Pierre-Alain Meier, Yaaba tells the story of an intrepid friendship. Bila, a 10-year-old Sahelian boy, is enjoying a happy childhood with his girl cousin Nopoko. One day, the little boy meets Sana, a woman who is rejected by the villagers, who think she is a witch. The child and the banished woman become inseparable.
