Daughters of the Dust

Southern United States, 1840. The rich Warren Maxwell (James Mason) reigns without pity over a plantation. He forces his son Hammond to marry his cousin Blanche. She is not a virgin however and is abandoned. She finds shelter in the arms of an imposing Mandingo as a slave revolt rumbles. The director was dreaming of making a Black version of Gone with the Wind. The scandal was tremendous.
