Fitzcarraldo

Back to listing

Cardinale holds her own against her on-screen lover, the tempestuous Klaus Kinski, in this film of excess. She stands by the eponymous Fitzcarraldo through thick and thin as he attempts to build the largest opera house in the world in the Amazon. Never surrendering her identity, she anchors the film with her saneness that withstands the maelstrom of madness of both the script and Herzog’s direction.
