Since 1906, a dozen or so westerns have told the story of the Kelly Gang and its leader, an Australian Robin Hood and British-Empire freedom fighter, who was known to launch his attacks disguised as a woman and even in knight’s armour. Although a 1970 film saw Mick Jagger play the outback legend, no other film can beat the epic quality of this adaptation of the Peter Carey novel. Our Australian gem for 2020.
