This sublime fictional biography of the artist Francis Bacon, which was screened in competition at Cannes in 1998, gave Daniel Craig his first major film role. The future 007 plays George Dyer, a small-time crook from the East End of London with whom Bacon pursues a passionate and merciless relationship. While Bacon is being feted at the Grand Palais in Paris, Dyer, alone, slugs down a fatal cocktail.
