Christina was 5 years old when she acceded to the Swedish throne in 1632. Though betrothed to another, she falls in love with a Spanish emissary. She has to choose between her duty as queen and her womanly desires. For some, Queen Christina is the archetypal biopic and gave Greta Garbo a tailor-made role as the headstrong woman who refused to sacrifice her life to her destiny.
