Fribourg International Film Festival invites the audience to pick the films of a section. From 4th to 30th October , members of the audience can vote for their favourite five films from a list of fifty. This year fifty hip-hop films are in the tracks list.
FIFF 2024 has chosen to devote one of the most important parts of its programme – the Genre Cinema section – to the cultural powerhouse of hip-hop. The line-up will feature around 15 films: some, like 1971 Shaft and Brian De Palma's Scarface, inspired the movement; others tap into foundational elements of the hip-hop universe, such as rap, graffiti art and breakdancing. Five of these 15 films will be chosen by the public from a curated catalogue of 50 iconic movies.
For the fourth time, FIFF invites the audience to vote for their five favourite films. The vote is open from 4th to 30th October:
The five films which receive the most votes will be shown at the Festival. In addition, volunteers from the voting public will join the FIFF team and present each movie prior to their screening. The programme of the Genre Cinema (II): Audience Choice section, which launched in 2021, is not only curated by the largest artistic committee any film festival has ever had but it is also a necessary complement to the main Genre Cinema (I) section, which will be given over to hip-hop films.
