With dedication and great skill, the Cinémathèque suisse has restored the films by Henry Brandt to their full glory. And there is no better proof than this visual exploration of Madagascar on the eve of its independence. Brandt paints a portrait that challenges the racist perception of this 'primitive' culture and in doing so, deftly defies the commission entrusted to him by the Mission de Paris.
