Winning Visions du Réel Grand Prize at Nyon in 1998, State of Dogs is the distillation of several years of work in Mongolia by the Belgian Peter Brosens and is a testament to his love of the country. Filmed with a local co-director and team, this parable is an acerbic and poetic invitation to wonder between two worlds: a stray dog refuses to reincarnate as a man, in accordance with Mongolian beliefs.
