
The least well-known of Ken Loach’s film choices actually won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1966. A contemporary of The Loves of a Blonde, this film is also part of the breathtaking wave of Czech films reflecting youthful aspirations. Set during the Second World War, this tender, farcical film follows a shy train-station worker as he fails to seduce a pretty conductor.
