In 2017, the FIFF Midnight Screenings highlighted, with the help of three iconic examples of film noir (Goldstone, Hounds of Love and Killing Ground), the rude health of Australian cinema and its examinations of trauma. A state of health that was confirmed last September at Venice by Sweet Country, which won the Special Jury Prize. This sublime, 1920s-set western is darkly beautiful and addresses the cruel fate of the Aboriginal people.
