Ôshima made it to the Croisette some twenty years into his career, entering the 1976 Directors’ Fortnight with a film that created a huge scandal and was censured in his own country. In this story inspired by real events that pushes the boundaries of eroticism, the filmmaker portrays the passion of a couple who fall into an extreme carnal spiral.
