Daniela Thomas’s first solo fiction film after her wonderful collaboration with Walter Salles, Vazante displays a strong resonance with the Nova Friburgo bicentenary. The taboo story about the niece of a slave trader and an African man is set in the year 1821. An impressive film that portrays the context in which Swiss migrants would have found themselves at the time.
