Mona, an Afro-American fashion model, is sent to Cape Coast, Ghana, for a photo shoot. Visiting the ruins of the port where the slave ships embarked for North America, she feels faint and finds herself thrown back into a plantation in the days of slavery. A radical firebrand with a touch of fantasy, Sankofa was acclaimed at the 1993 Berlinale.
