After the success of I mostri 14 years earlier, Dino Risi and two other giants of Italian cinema (Mario Monicelli and Ettore Scola) made this sequel to help screenwriter Ugo Guerra pay his medical bills. The film is a series of 12 sketches that lampoon different aspects of Italian life, including intellectuals, the Church and male domination.
