Set in 1973, the film centres around Notre-Dame du Nil, a Catholic boarding school for the daughters of Rwanda’s elite, who are caught between the unctuous generosity of creepy post-colonial pseudo-admirers of the “Black Pharaohs” and the looming threat of genocide. Based on the book of the same name by Scholastique Mukasonga and directed by Afghan filmmaker Atiq Rahimi.
