With names that sound like magic incantations, Fatoumata Diawara, Ahmed Ag Kaedi, Bassekou Kouyaté and Master Soumy are the stars of Mali's vibrant and diverse music scene, and forceful personalities in their own right. The film is a musical, sociological and political odyssey through this red-hot land from which a wellspring of blues bubbles up and flows directly from the desert to the Mississippi.
