The CFA franc, which dates from the colonial era, is still used by 14 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. However, they reap fewer benefits from the currency, which is backed by the French Treasury and pegged to the euro, than the Eurozone region that enjoys easy access to their markets. A long overdue exposure of the venal reality behind this monetary fairy tale.
