In the early 1900s, Lucy, a young widow from London, leaves the banks of the Thames and rents a cottage in the seaside town of Whitecliff. Her daughter and governess accompany her. Lucy becomes acquainted with the ghost of the cottage's former inhabitant, a grumpy, troubled old naval officer, who is also strangely endearing. The ghost story as a romantic comedy.
