This historical film, which won the International Prize at Cannes in 1954, chronicles the life of Albania's national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, a 15th century feudal lord and fierce opponent of the Ottoman Empire. This flamboyant Albanian-USSR co-production depicts him as a medieval Spartacus and proto-Communist who arms slaves in order to defeat the enemy.
