This masterpiece, as intense as when it was made, is by far the most popular film among our panel. Buñuel spent a long time in the poor neighbourhoods of Mexico, gathering material which would inform his tale of Jaibo, a young delinquent and jail escapee. The film caused a scandal when it was released and was only screened again after it won the Best Director Award at the 1951 Festival de Cannes.
