There is something of Furyo (Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence) in this cat-and-mouse game between a North Korean soldier trying to defect and his pursuer, a sadistic officer from the country's State Security Department who is deeply perturbed by the young man's quest for freedom. A masterpiece of its genre.
