Patrice Lumumba is propelled to the centre of the political arena in the aftermath of decolonisation. Appointed Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, he embodied the image of an energetic and independent Africa until his brutal death in January 1961. Shown in Cannes in 2000, this is a gripping fictionalised portrait of an icon by a director more readily known for his documentaries.
