Five ends of the world dear to the audience

The five films which will form the section Audience Choice are now definite. The vote that Fribourg International Film Festival has organized crowned both comedy and film d’auteur.

Over a period of one month, the audience of FIFF could vote for five films out of fifty. The theme of the pre-selection was films about the end of the world. Participants could give their votes to apocalyptic films, from 1930s movies to recent blockbusters. The five winners will be in the programme of the next Festival.

And the winners are…

Stanley Kubrick, Lars von Trier and Christopher Nolan are on the podium with Richard Kelly and Edgar Wright by their side. Their movies will form the Audience Choice section of the 2022 edition of the Festival. From 18th to 27th March 2022, the following films will then be screened on Fribourg’s silver screens:

  1. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb by Stanley Kubrick (United Kingdom, 1964)
Picked by 35.1% of the voters.
  2. Melancholia by Lars von Trier (Danemark, Sweden, France, Germany, 2011)
Picked by 33% of the voters.
  3. Interstellar by Christopher Nolan (United Kingdom, Canada, United States, 2014)
Picked by 26.2% of the voters.
  4. Donnie Darko by Richard Kelly (United States, 2001)
Picked by 23.4% of the voters.
  5. The World’s End by Edgar Wright (United Kingdom, United States, Japan, 2013)
Picked by 16.1% of the voters.

The two movies on top found favour with more than a third of the voters; they appear to be eagerly awaited by the audience. The productions on the third and fourth places are well in front of the pack. Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s pub crawl reaches however the fifth position with only one more vote than the film in sixth position (Contagion by Steven Soderbergh, 2011)

The ultimate audience section

The audience will continue to play a part in this section. Some people who took part in the vote will indeed present those films during the Festival. The ballot contained an option allowing voters to notify their interest to FIFF’s cultural projects team. Those persons will soon receive an information on the matter.

The whole FIFF team gives their warmest thanks to all those who took part in the vote!
