Shakib finds respite from his life of grinding poverty in his relationship with Ladan, a deaf prostitute. His world starts to crumble while he is working on a building site which, unknown to him, is a movie set. This brilliant metaphor for the banality of evil won two awards at the 2022 Mostra di Venezia and was Iran’s submission in the 2023 Oscars race.
