In 2019, Niger was represented for the first time in the Oscar race with The Wedding Ring shortlisted in Best Foreign Language category. In her first fiction feature film, Rahmatou Keïta draws a portrait of a young aristocrat played by Magaajyia Silberfeld. On returning to Niger after studies abroad, she mends her broken heart over a lost love through the mystical promise of a new moon.
