In an isolated motel, a banal escape story turns into a nightmare instigated by an invisible yet omnipresent mother figure. With Psycho, Hitchcock wanted to reinvent himself as a filmmaker: low budget, black and white, a television crew, and minimal set. His film redefined the horror genre and became a landmark in cinema history.
