We wanted to give a special mention to a raw and pared-down film, in which life pushes back and against everything in a place where death dominates. It shows the conditions of an oppressed community, with little coverage, and does so at the level and pace of its characters.
The film we have chosen to award is a work that gives women their say. Behind closed doors, it explores the material and symbolic conflicts of an unusual family freely and without resorting to fatalism. We were struck by its honest style, which, far from confining its characters to roles of victims and perpetrators, successfully broadens the perspective.
