This tragic epic tells the story of Ahmed, a poor farmer, through the lens of the conflicts that led up to the Algerian War. This priceless piece of cinematic heritage and winner of the 1975 Palme d'or was restored by the Film Foundation's World Cinema Project and Cineteca di Bologna. The director oversaw the colour grading himself.
This restoration is part of the African Film Heritage Project, created by The Film Foundation, FEPACI and UNESCO – in collaboration with Cineteca di Bologna – to help locate, restore, and disseminate African cinema.
