A village in the Brazilian sertão is suddenly wiped off the map. Before long, the locals realise they now have a target on their backs. Between threats from outsiders, organised violence and acts of collective resistance, the film moves from realism to dystopian fable. Bacurau won the Jury Prize at Cannes 2019 and sent political shockwaves through Bolsonaro's Brazil.
