Grand Prix
The Grand Prix of the Fribourg International Film Festival consists of CHF 30,000 jointly bestowed by the Canton of Fribourg (CHF 20,000) and the Municipality of Fribourg (CHF 10,000). This award is conferred upon the director (CHF 20,000) and the producer (CHF 10,000) of the film selected by the international Jury.
Youth Jury Award
Conferred by Fribourgissima amounting to CHF 5,000 and organized in collaboration with the University of Fribourg, this prize is awarded by the Youth Jury. It aims not only to give young people a say in the Festival, but also to highlight a film that takes into account the problems faced by young people in today's world. It is aimed to raise awareness in students and apprentices of the irreplaceable means provided by films – beyond mere diversion – to discover the riches of other cultures and to learn tolerance and justice.
Ecumenical Jury Award
The Ecumenical Jury of INTERFILM (International Interchurch Film Organization) and SIGNIS (World Catholic Association for Communication) awards its prize of CHF 5,000 conferred jointly by INTERFILM and Action de Carême. The Ecumenical Jury offers a distinctive approach to the films. Interested in their artistic and formal qualities, it draws attention to those works expressing the values of justice, human dignity, respect for the environment, peace and solidarity. These values, upon which the two organisations base their commitment, are also those of the Gospel.
CH Cinema Network Award
Prize money of CHF 3,000 is awarded to the best short film entered in the International Competition. It will be awarded by a Jury of CH Cinema Network students from Lausanne, Lugano and Zurich universities, ECAL, HEAD and ZHdK. Based on an exchange between universities, universities of applied sciences and filmmaking institutions, this national programme combines theory and practice and university education.
Foreign Visa Award
This prize of CHF 1,000 is sponsored by E-CHANGER and Fribourg-Solidaire. Every year, Switzerland's top film schools are invited to send in short films (20 minutes maximum) made by their students. These top films by the future filmmakers of Switzerland are submitted to the judgment of the members of the New Territory section, which this year is composed of Colombian producers and directors.
Prix Röstigraben
The Schweizer Jugendfilmtage (SJFT) and the FIFF have joined forces to offer an award for Swiss film-school students. Young filmmakers whose film is selected at the FIFF judge the work of their peers selected at the SJFT, and vice versa. The two winning films receive prize money of CHF 1,000 each, sponsored by the FDFA – Francophonie Service. The aim is to promote cooperation and closer ties between young filmmakers working on either side of the “Röstigraben”, the invisible border between French- and German-speaking Switzerland.
Participation diploma
Each director whose film is shown during the Festival receives a diploma certifying his or her participation.
