After his mother dies, Birahima is sent to live with his aunt in Liberia. Yacouba, a local huckster, joins him on his journey. After they are attacked by rebel forces, the older man convinces Birahima to become a child soldier. The young Guinean tells the story of his stolen childhood with humour and irony.
