TV Series in the Middle East

The Forum@FIFF takes this year a new shape, opened to Swiss and international professionals, to schools and to the public. Dedicated to television series in the world, it will present four series coming from Israel, Syria and Saudi Arabia which will serve as basis to 3 days of conferences, debates and master classes. The Forum will welcome in particular Ori Sivan, the director and the scriptwriter of the series "Betipul", bought and adapted by HBO in 2007 and currently broadcasted under the name "In Treatment". Sociologists, producers, film-makers, buyers, specialists or fans will meet around the worldwide phenomenon of the series. It will be opportunity also to review the situation of TV series in Switzerland.

March 17th SEASON 1: DECONSTRUCTING TV SERIES

How does a series work and why do I always want more?

Conferences: media sociology, character drawing, aesthetical, socio-cultural, ideological, historical, geographical, and economic challenges

  • 9:30 am / « Traps of the new American TV series », introduction by Sarah Hatchuel and Monica Michlin. Amercian shows as a starting point for a larger discussion on tv series as a world phenomena, presentation of the 4 series.
  • 02:00 pm / application of the morning discussion on the 4 series shown in the forum. Socio-cultural representation, risk taking, political correctness, construction of characters….

TV series in Switzerland: Where do we stand and how does the future look?
Presentations and discussions with representatives of the Swiss film industry and international guests

  • 9:30 am / Round table: Federal Office of Culture (OFC), Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR), Schweizer Fernsehen (SF), producers (Rita Production, C-films), buyers, directors… all confront their idea of a TV series with our international guests.
  • 02:00 pm / Round table
