O HOMEM QUE COPIAVA - THE MAN WHO COPIED, by Jorge Furtado
Tuesday, March 9, 2010, 6:30 pm, Cinémovie 1, Berne
André, 20 years old, «photocopy machine operator», has a crush on Silvia. The story is about this couple and two of their friends. All of them just barely get by financially and are not interested in their jobs. André finds out that Silvia's father is behaving strangely towards her and he decides to take immediate action to save her from impending danger.
In his sarcastic yet sweet way, Jorge Furtado draws a picture of a generation with no perspectives for the future made up of friendly losers, a really nice bunch of characters, who just want to get by. O homem que copiava makes use of quite a mix of genres, even animation at one point. It is a love story, a touching comedy, and a glowing example of the principle «it's better to fight than to give up». All this plus Furtado's natural talent makes for a fine and subtle film that does not moralize in any way.
This event is supported by the "Intergroupe Parlementaire Culture", the Canton of Fribourg, the City of Berne, Quinnie Cinemas and the Berner Kulturagenda.
