| Synopsis | When he retires in 1999, Benjamin Esposito, a court official, is still tormented by an assassination and a rape that took place in 1974, shortly before Argentina fell into the hands of the extremist rightwing military. He remembers this period, the strange relationship he developed with his superior, a young magistrate, and all the problems that then arose. | |||||||||
| Comment | El secreto de sus ojos is doubtlessly Juan José Campanella’s best film. It is built up on a long flashback and interpreted by a superb ensemble cast of Argentinean actors, including the famous Ricardo Darin and the less well-known Soledad Villamil. The filmmaker not only succeeds in combining two love stories, a police intrigue and the evocation of a terrible period, but also in mixing in part burlesque, part moving details that win the audience over. | |||||||||
