Spain
The debut feature film of director Mercedes Álvarez, El Cielo Gira (2004), has garnered widespread acclaim at numerous festivals, amongst which Rotterdam and Buenos Aires. A resident of Barcelona since several years, Álvarez has worked as an editor with José Luis Guérin, notably on En construcción (2001). She is currently completing the post-production on her second feature film.
Switzerland
Born in 1967, Christian Davi is developer, producer and co-owner of Hugofilm, one of Switzerland’s leading production companies. Its most successful production so far is Vitus by Fredi M. Murer. Premiering at the Berlinale ‘06, it was shortlisted for the Academy Awards ‘07 and was sold to over 40 territories. In 2009, two new titles had their multi-national releases: Pepperminta by Pipilotti Rist (premiering in Venice) and Tannöd by Bettina Oberli.
India
Sunil Doshi is a member of the new generation of creative, open-minded Mumbai film professionals. As a producer, he has released several films amongst which Bheja Fry (2003, a huge success in India), Lovesongs (2008) and Daayen ya Baayen (2010). He has also distributed many Western films in his country and was invited by the FIFF in 2009 within the framework of the Indian panorama “Out of Bollywood”.
Morroco/France
Born in Casablanca, Izza Genini followed her emigrant parents to France, before yearning to discover Morocco once again. She is a great lover of Moroccan music, a passion that has lead her to direct a series of films on Morocco’s rich musical and cultural heritage entitled “Morocco Body and Soul”.
Georgia
Filmmaker George Ovashvili returns to the FIFF after winning last year’s Regard d’or and Audience Award with his first feature film The Other Bank, which is currently enjoying a major international career and will be released in Switzerland shortly. Ovashvili is now working on a new film. He was born in 1963 in Tbilissi.
